About Us

A Brief History

Raleigh Nursery School was founded on March 1, 1949 by the United War Mothers of Raleigh, North Carolina, as a memorial to sons who had served in World War II.  It operated as "Tot Haven Nursery School."  The War Mothers remained active sponsors until 1954, at which time the Community Chest, (later named the United Fund presently Triangle United Way) became the sole financial sponsor.  The name was then changed to Raleigh Day Nursery School.

A Board of Directors composed of interested citizens, including at least three parents, determines the policies for operation of the school and employs an Executive Director to carry out the same.  The Board of Directors establishes fees within the income range of those families being served.  Raleigh Nursery School is a member agency of the Triangle United Way and receives a substantial amount of financial support from this organization each year.  In cooperation with the United Way, the Board of Directors prepares an annual budget, adjusting fees periodically for the financial operation of the school.

The school is licensed by the State of North Carolina Department of Child Day Care Licensing, and Certified by the State Department of Human Resources.
