About Us
Raleigh Nursery School, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit child care center, licensed at a 5-Star Quality Rating by the North Carolina Division of Child Development and Early Education (NCDCDEE), and Accredited by the National Association for Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
Raleigh Nursery School was founded in 1949 by the United War Mothers Chapter I during World War II. The school arose from a profound commitment to support families who had lost fathers in a time of economic need. The organization’s founders strived to provide a safe, nurturing environment for children while their mothers joined the workforce.
Our first Director and Teacher, Rosia D. Butler, continued to lead the school from 1949 to 1986 - our current Director Brenda High Sanders has been leading the school for the last 39 years.
From the grassroots beginnings in the historical Chavis Heights community to our new home in the historical Halifax Court (newly named Capital Park Community), we continue to provide rich experiences for children and support for their families.
